Welcome to MAEOE's Environmental Educator Certification (EEC) Program.

The EEC develops highly qualified environmental educators through professional development, mentorship, stewardship, and leadership opportunities. Grounded in the NAAEE Guidelines for Excellence, the program supports educators in building the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to create meaningful environmental learning experiences and positive social-ecological change.

This site also serves as the official location for completing program requirements and submitting materials for review. Participants should use the appropriate sections of the site to upload assignments, reflections, lesson plans, stewardship documentation, informational papers, action projects, and other certification materials.

Complete the shared foundation of your EEC journey. Strand 1 includes orientation, the EEC workshop, discussions, and reflections grounded in the NAAEE Guidelines for Excellence.

Pursue EEC-Associate (EEC-A) certification. EEC-A candidates complete the shared EEC Strand 1 requirements before continuing with professional development, lesson planning, environmental stewardship, and reflection.

Pursue EEC-Professional (EEC-P) certification, MAEOE's NAAEE-accredited professional credential. EEC-P candidates complete the shared EEC Strand 1 requirements before continuing with advanced professional requirements demonstrating environmental education knowledge, experience, leadership, and practice.

Earn the Climate Education Endorsement as an EEC-Associate or EEC-Professional. Complete specialized climate education professional learning, application, and reflection designed to strengthen climate knowledge and practice.

Become recognized as an Environmental Education Certified Institution (EEC-I). This pathway supports organizations in demonstrating a commitment to high-quality environmental education through organizational practices, professional learning, and continued growth.

Accepted pilot organizations may participate at no cost while MAEOE evaluates and refines the certification process. A future certification fee is anticipated following the pilot phase.

Maintain your EEC certification through continued professional growth and engagement. EEC-Associate and EEC-Professional graduates use this course to complete and document the requirements for recertification.
